An Interview with Young Frnaco

You started making music at a young age – what initially drew you to production and DJing?

It was honestly sampling and sample-based music. I loved old disco and soul records and when producers would flip them on their head I found that most interesting.

Your sound is so vibrant and infectious. How did you develop your signature style?

I think it's a whole lot of trial and error. I generally try to make music that excites me so it feels a little multi-genre which I'm okay with.

Was there a defining moment when you realized music was your true calling?

Funnily enough, it's never felt like a true calling but more of a "this brings me so much joy – I wanna work on this all the time" and that's luckily enough turned into a career.

Coming from Australia, how has the local music scene influenced your sound and career?

I think the sounds coming out of Australia are world class. Since we are so isolated, you really gotta push yourself to get heard overseas. Also, I think the weather helps.

How do you choose collaborators, and what makes a great collab?

I have a genuine love of the music of the people I work with. There has to be mutual admiration and then generally I try and mix the two sounds together.

If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Putting it out in the ether but I would love to do something with Sophie Ellis-Bexter in the future.

What advice would you give to up-and-coming producers trying to break into the scene?

I think integrating yourself within your local scene is more important now than ever. Meeting people in the same communities as you will always beat online. Also! Reach out to your favourite artist on IG or email. You never know what could happen!

What do you have planned for 2025?

Touring and putting out more music. Gonna try and play more football (soccer) this year and maybe try running a bit more.
