An Interview with The Dare

How do you like to start your day?

Usually crawl out of bed, drink coffee, have a chocolate croissant. This is usually around 4pm.

What song are you most excited to perform live?

“Elevation” – I just had a dream that I was performing it at Radio City Music Hall the other night. I'm hoping that comes true someday. It's probably the song on the album I'm most fond of, and I need to hear the bass and drums at a proper volume.

What's the last song you listened to?

“Quadrant Dub I” by Basic Channel. Probably listened to it 100 times this week. Endless variations of two chords and a lot of delay. And the kick drum is perfect.

What's your ideal date night?

The best date I ever went on started at the MET, walked around Central Park, then took a cab down to the West Village just as the rain started to pour. We said I love you then had dinner and a lot of cigarettes.

What's the last movie you watched?

Body Double by Brian DePalma. Second time I've seen it, but it was even better the second time. The main theme is extremely beautiful and complicates the main character’s voyeurism.

Last TV show you watched?

Emily in Paris. A gut-wrenching, unflinching look at some of life’s most miserable realities.

Go to bar or hangout spot in LA?

I’m not going to blow up my own spots, so I’ll tell you the worst spot in LA. Astro Diner in Silverlake. They should blow it to smithereens. It’s the worst place to end up at 4am.

Where do you feel the most inspired?

In the shower. There’s something magical about a little water and solitude. I hate the beach, I hate the ocean, and I’m mixed on pools, but the bath is sacred to me. It’s a fountain of inspiration (pun intended).
