An Interview with DrexTheJoint

December 17, 2024

We chatted with rising artist DrexTheJoint ahead of his sold out show at The Roxy about his Southern California roots, dream collabs, and the importance of giving back to the community.

How have your SoCal roots shaped your music?

It shaped the sound I have in my music, my style, flow, and charisma.

What was the moment you realized you wanted to pursue music professionally?

The moment I realized I wanted to pursue music professionally was when I seen myself making money out of this and I was getting recognition for my music.

Who/what do you draw inspiration from? What has been the most influential force for your music?

I draw inspiration from all of the greats in the West Coast that been doing this like Snoop, Dr. Dre, etc. Seeing a lot of rappers from LA blow up and never an artist from Orange County has been my influential force.

You recently did a Barbershop Give Back Event. Tell us more about the event + why you decided to do it.

The event was more about showing love to my younger fanbase and blessing them up because I remember there was days I wanted to go to a barbershop and get a haircut but I couldn’t because we never had no money like that. I decided to do it because I wanted to show my fans I appreciate them and build a stronger bond with them.

Who is your dream collab?

My dream collab would probably be Drake.

You're bringing someone to SoCal for the first time – where's the first place you're going to take them?

I would bring them to a restaurant in Santa Ana called Tapatia.

Which song of yours would you recommend to a first-time listener?

I would recommend “Bounce Out” or “Play Ball.”
